Ohm's law

Editorial status: Aug 7, 2026Short article18+
In simple terms

Ohm's law describes the relationship U = R × I between voltage, resistance and current for an ohmic conductor. Electrical power can be calculated from it; real coils may change resistance as they heat, which must be considered.

01

Classification

Ohm's law is a measured or characteristic value, so it describes not an object but a property that can be compared. Only together with its unit, measurement condition and tolerance does the figure become genuinely meaningful. Because Ohm's law is closely tied to Battery capacity, comparing two products is always worth doing across both specifications rather than just one.

02

Practical relevance

Product specifications often quote Ohm's law without context, even though context is exactly what makes the difference. Two identical numbers can mean completely different results with a different design, airflow or measuring method. Looking at Ohm's law and Ohm together makes it quicker to tell whether a problem sits in the device, the consumable or the way it is used.

03

Handling it safely

Never transfer a Ohm's law value from one device to another unchecked. What counts is the range printed on the part and the manufacturer's release, not figures picked up in forums. Keep the manufacturer documentation for Ohm's law to hand; in a dispute it is also the decisive basis for warranty questions.

04

Not to be confused with

The line between Ohm's law, Battery capacity and Ohm runs not through the form factor but through what each one measures, regulates or names. Once the three terms are cleanly separated, datasheets and product pages read much faster and lead to fewer mistaken purchases.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does Ohm's law mean?
Ohm's law is filed under Parts & technology in this glossary. What matters is not the word's origin but the technical property or rule behind it – and that is always stated on the specific product.
What really matters with Ohm's law?
What matters most with Ohm's law is the combination: device, consumable and liquid have to match. Individually good figures do not help if one element is out of line.
What is the difference between Ohm's law and Pod capacity?
The two overlap but are not identical: Ohm's law answers a different question from Pod capacity. On a specific product both specifications can apply at the same time.
